The Field
Grassroots Flying
Shiflet Field (9A9) is a private field that is open to the public, with 37 hangars that access a 3,300' x 150' lighted, glide-slope equipped grass strip that is lovingly maintained by its members. The Marion Airport Commission (MAC) is a non-profit entity that manages hangar leases, has a bunch of rules that describe how to become a member and how to stay a member, and conducts the upkeep of this lovely little grass strip for the benefit of its members and the wonderful folks who stop by to visit us and enjoy 9A9.
EAA 1662
Aircraft Knowledge Hub
The newly formed EAA Chapter 1662 was established in 2021. Our membership represents a vibrant community of builders and pilots actively engaged in various facets of aviation. Members are building planes on the field, keeping antique aircraft alive, pursuing competition aerobatics, working on their ratings, dreaming of their next airplane, sharing knowledge with one another, and doing it all at Shiflet Field, interfacing with our neighbor airports and EAA chapters.

The MERSHON Aerobatic Practice Area (APA) is intended for the purposes of aerobatic flight to establish and maintain proficiency, as well as enhance competitive skills in aerobatic maneuvers. Due to the need to balance safety requirements against airspace limitations, Federal Aviation Regulations, the local Flight Standards District Office, surrounding neighbors, the aerobatic "box" has been carefully considered in its dimensions and provisions for usage. Contact Brooks Mershon if you have questions or concerns regarding this practice area over 9A9.
